1. Who we are
The Boundary Country Regional Chamber of Commerce (“the Chamber”, “we”, “us”) operates www.boundarychamber.com. We are located at Box 43, Grand Forks, BC V0H 1H0, and you can reach us at info@boundarychamber.com.
This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website and our membership services, why we collect it, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. We handle personal information in accordance with British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and, where it applies, other Canadian privacy law.
2. What we collect
Our membership application forms, member log-in and business directory are provided by Membee, our membership management system. What you enter in them is sent to Membee and stored there on our behalf.
- Individual membership applications: your first and last name; your employer, employer logo and job title; your email address, website and phone number; your mailing address (address, city, province or state, country and postal code); a directory description and business category; and your chosen method of payment (credit card or invoice). You can choose not to be listed in the directory.
- Organization membership applications: your membership level; the organization’s name and logo; the name, job title, email address and phone number of the main contact and of up to five additional contacts; the organization’s email address, website, phone and toll-free numbers, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages and address; a directory description and business category; and your chosen method of payment (credit card or invoice).
- Payment: we record only whether you chose to pay by invoice or by credit card. Credit card payments are handled by a secure third-party payment processor; we do not receive or store your card details.
- Member log-in: your username and password. If you tick “Remember me”, a cookie keeps you logged in on that device.
- Business directory listings: the business information members provide for their listing (such as name, logo, description, category and contact details) is published in our public business directory, where anyone can see it. Organization memberships include a listing; individual members can opt out.
- Directory “My List”: visitors can add businesses to a list while browsing the directory. If you use “Email My List To Me”, we collect your first and last name and email address to send you the list. If you use “Email All Listing Owners”, we collect your first and last name, email address, subject and message, and send them to every business on your list.
- Messages to us. If you email us or contact us through the website, we collect your name, contact details and what you send us.
- Website use. Like most websites, we and our service providers collect technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, pages viewed and the site that referred you, through server logs, cookies and similar technologies. See section 6 and our Cookie Policy.
3. How we use it
- To process membership applications and manage memberships, including renewals and member communications.
- To publish member businesses in the business directory.
- To answer your questions and requests, and to send the lists and messages you ask for through the business directory.
- To operate, secure and improve the website, and to understand how it is used (with your consent where the law requires it).
- To meet our legal and accounting obligations.
We collect only what we need for these purposes, and we will ask for your consent before using your personal information for a new purpose.
4. Consent
By submitting a form or sending us information, you consent to our collecting, using and disclosing it for the purposes described above. You may withdraw your consent at any time by emailing info@boundarychamber.com, subject to legal or contractual restrictions. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer provide a service, such as your membership or directory listing.
5. Sharing and service providers
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the Chamber and this website, and only as needed for them to do so:
- Membee, our membership management system, which runs our membership application, member log-in and business directory forms and stores what is entered in them.
- Google (Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics and Google Ads), which measures how the website is used and how our advertising performs, subject to your cookie choices.
When you use “Email All Listing Owners” in the business directory, your name, email address and message go to the businesses on your list, which handle them under their own privacy practices. Directory listings are public by design.
We may also disclose personal information where the law requires or permits it.
6. Cookies and analytics
This website uses cookies and similar technologies to work properly, to remember your choices and, with your consent where required, to measure use of the site and our advertising. You can change your choices at any time through the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page. Our Cookie Policy lists every cookie we use, who sets it, what it is for and how long it lasts.
7. Storage outside Canada
Some of our service providers store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States. Information held there is subject to the laws of that country and may be accessible to its courts and authorities.
8. How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above or as the law requires.
9. How we protect it
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect personal information against unauthorized access, use, disclosure, copying, modification and loss. The website is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Your rights
You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, to learn how it has been used and to whom it has been disclosed, and to have it corrected if it is inaccurate. Email your request to info@boundarychamber.com; we will respond within the time PIPA requires (generally 30 business days). We may need to confirm your identity first.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia (www.oipc.bc.ca).
